At the end Of september, the total amount of deposits in albanian banks exceeded 1.4 trillion lek (about 14 billion eurosAccording to data from the Bank of Albania, compared to August, the amount of money saved by citizens and businesses increased by 12.5 billion lek (about 125 million euros).
Economic analysts estimate that there is an increase in the incomes of Albanian households and citizens in general. However, how much Albanians save depends on both their financial literacy and their income level.
And while bank deposits are increasing, a large part of the population says it is difficult to meet even basic needs.
«I work and just get by. I have no savings. There's nothing left to put aside. No matter how hard we try, it's not possible. There's no room", the citizens say characteristically.
This contradiction is explained by the data of Deposit Guarantee Service: more than half of total savings belong to just 5% of citizens.
According to economic analysts, considering that approximately 40 % of household incomes in Albania goes to basic consumption, it is natural that there are low levels of savings. This negatively affects economic activity, slowing down many sectors. In some regions there is an increase, in others a decrease. For example, in the north of Albania family incomes are decreasing, while in the prefectures Durres, Tirana and Korçë have increased, following the pace of inflation.
The elements of Central Bank also show that, due to the depreciation of the euro, deposits in national currency are increasing. At the end of September, savings in lek exceeded 681 billion lek (about 6.8 billion euros).
