Bus driver on Athens-Tirana route arrested in Kakavia for smuggling

A bus that operated the route of the line Athens – Tirana was immobilized in Kakavia Border Checkpoint on the Albanian side, as during the inspection they were found undeclared goods who are suspected of smuggling.

According to secondary control carried out by the border police in cooperation with the customs authorities, dozens of bags of clothes, suitcases with cosmetic products and boxes of car spare parts were found in the vehicle's luggage, which did not have the required documents.

After the checks were completed, the two bus drivers, residents of Tirana, were taken to the police station for questioning. One of the two was arrested, while the prescribed criminal proceedings were initiated against the second.

The Gjirokaster Police, in a statement, provided clarifications video released on social media, which showed police officers in Kakavia checking a bus and asking passengers to get off along with their luggage.

According to the announcement, the border police forces of Kakavia, in collaboration with customs, in the context of action for the combating cross-border crime and based on risk analysis, submitted the Athens - Tirana bus to second line control upon entering Albania.

During the inspection, goods suspected of being smuggled were identified, resulting in the arrest of the two drivers and the seizure of the items as evidence. The Police confiscated dozens of bags of clothes, suitcases of cosmetic products and boxes of vehicle spare parts, which had not been declared in accordance with the law.
