Incidental pursuit in Ioannina – Albanian woman with 215 kilos of drugs in the hands of the Police

A foreign national was arrested for transporting 215 kilograms of raw cannabis by car, with her 2.5-year-old child with her.

A significant quantity of drugs was seized yesterday, December 15, 2025, at noon by the Narcotics Department of the Ioannina Crime Prosecution and Investigation Sub-Directorate, preventing their further trafficking and distribution on the market.

A woman and two men from Albania were arrested in the case, and a case was filed against them for drug trafficking, violence against employees, dangerous driving, exposure, repeated damage to another's property and violations of the law on foreigners.

According to the Hellenic Police, yesterday morning, in the context of exploiting information, police officers from Ioannina and the Konitsa Police Department located a private jeep driven by a woman from Albania, while another vehicle was in front, acting as a convoy.

The driver did not comply with police stop signs and, taking advantage of the difficult weather and road conditions, tried to escape by passing through areas of the Prefecture of Grevena. Eventually, the vehicle was stopped in Vovousa, Ioannina, by police officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit and the OPKE. During the pursuit, the driver crashed twice into official vehicles, causing damage.

In the car, which was full of 118 packages of raw cannabis weighing a total of 215 kilos, the foreigner's 2.5-year-old son was also there.

Also seized were:

  • the two fake Greek license plates the vehicle carried,
  • the two real Albanian license plates of the car,
  • metal cannabis grater,
  • 2.7 grams of raw cannabis and
  • 3 mobile phones.

Police officers from the Grevena Traffic Department earlier located the vehicle that was operating as a convoy in Filippei, Grevena, in which the two accomplices of the accused were riding. Their vehicle, 510 euros and 2 mobile phones were also seized.

The three arrested individuals will be brought to the Ioannina First Instance Prosecutor's Office with the case file filed against them.
