Kolokotronis' documents are a response to the deconstructionists of 1821

The recent celebration of the anniversary of the Greek Revolution brought to our mind the various attempts to deconstruct our History and national identity, which appear from time to time. The gratifying thing is that these attempts fail, because they clash with the evidence, the testimonies of the time and the research zeal of certain scientists.

For many decades, an effort has been made by Marxists of various tendencies to present the Revolution of 1821 as social-class and not national. The answer is given to them by the people who lived through the events. The statement of Theodoros Kolokotronis in “Narrative of the Events of the Greek Race”, that is, in his Memoirs, is characteristic. There he emphasizes the national and not class character of the National Uprising:

“Our own revolution is unlike any that is taking place today in Europe. Europe's revolutions against their governments are a civil war. Our own war was the most just, it was one nation against another nation”!

The Old Man of Moreas, as an eyewitness, knows better than anyone and rejects, among other things, the view that the Greek Revolution was the brainchild of the French Revolution.

The same view about the national and not social character of 1821 was held by one of the fanatical opponents of the Greek uprising. The Austrian Chancellor Count Metternich, in a letter written in 1826, writes:

"The Greek Revolution resembles much more the disturbances which occasionally occur in Ireland (meaning: secession from Great Britain) than the events which swept Spain, Portugal and Italy, and which had to a very large extent the characteristics of the French Revolution."

The recent digitization of the entire archive of letters of Theodoros Kolokotronis (kolokotronis-archive.org), which was officially presented to the public, curated by the National Research Foundation, brings together 1100 digitized documents, which belong to the Michael N. Stasinopoulos Public Benefit Foundation - VIOHALCO and the Public Benefit Foundation for Social and Cultural Work (KIKPE).

Από τις επιστολές αυτές αποδεικνύεται περίτρανα ότι ο Θ. Κολοκοτρώνης μετά την άδικη φυλάκισή του κατά τον β΄ εμφύλιο επανήλθε ενεργός στην πολεμική δράση και κατεδίωξε όχι μόνο τον στρατό του Ιμπραήμ, αλλά και τους προσκυνημένους Νενέκους. Η δράση του κατά την περίοδο 1825-1828 είναι μαχητική και εντυπωσιακή, όπως προκύπτει από το ψηφιοποιημένο αρχείο. Πρόκειται για  συντριπτική απάντηση σε μία ομάδα αποδομητών, οι οποίοι καθ΄ όλη τη διάρκεια του 2021 γύριζαν την Ελλάδα και κατηγορούσαν τον Πελοποννήσιο ηγέτη ότι «μετά το 1826 δεν πολεμούσε, αλλά μόνο πολιτικολογούσε και έκανε ίντριγκες».

It is sad that noisy minorities of intellectuals and historical researchers are attempting to become famous or appear as supposedly progressives by tarnishing the memory of freedom fighters. Now that all these documents for the period 1825-1828 are available, will the deconstructors publicly apologize?

New technologies – Fortunately – help in the wider dissemination of truth and evidence and defeat the inaccuracies of Propagandists. the patriotic pride, which the greeks Felt during the recent dispatch of ships and aircraft To cyprus, shows that the deconstructors have failed to alter national identity and historical memory.
