Skepsis, a city founded in the 6th century BC, sank beneath the waters of the Bayramiç Dam in the 1990s. But as the water level dropped dramatically due to drought, the ruins of a 1,500-year-old church and bathhouse came to light, offering a fascinating glimpse into the past.
The discovery of these archaeological treasures is an important opportunity for scholars to better understand life in ancient Greek and Roman Asia Minor. The architecture of the bath, with its decorative elements, sheds light on the construction techniques, social customs and healing practices of the time.
