The Metropolis of Konitsa honored the memory of the fighters of the Autonomous Struggle of Northern Epirus

And this year, under a new Metropolitan, the Metropolis of Dryinoupolis, Pogoniani and Konitsa held in historic Delvinaki the events that have been established for decades for the Anniversary of the Autonomy of Northern Epirus (17-02-1914) and the signing of the Corfu Protocol (17-05-1914).

People gathered from various regions of Greece, but also from the Northern Epirus area.

On Sunday, May 17, 2026, at the Metropolitan Church of the Dormition of the Theotokos of Delvinaki, Metropolitan Alexios of Dryinoupolis, Pogoniani and Konitsa, accompanied by priests of his Metropolis, celebrated the Mass, and also celebrated the memorial service for the repose of the souls of the pioneers of the Autonomy Struggle.

Κοιμήθηκε στην Αθήνα στις 26 Φεβρουαρίου 1936 και η σορός του μεταφέρθηκε προς ταφή στο Δελβινάκι 1 Μαρτίου 1936, όπου πλήθος κόσμου τον συνόδεψε στην τελευταία του κατοικία).

In the event hall of the Municipality of Pogoni, the president of SFEVA, Philotheos Kementzetzidis, referred in detail to the history of the Autonomy of Northern Epirus, emphasizing the timeless obligation to ensure the human rights of the people of Northern Epirus.

It should be noted that this event was initiated by the unforgettable Metropolitan Sebastian, during the years when the atheist regime dominated Albania, in order not to forget historical events, but also as an opportunity to support and encourage the people of Northern Epirus, and was continued by his successor and close collaborator, the late Andreas.

And now the new Metropolitan Alexios, with simplicity, moderation and prudence, follows the legacy of honor and memory of the fighters for the Autonomy of Northern Epirus.
