Molotov cocktails and clashes with police at opposition protest in Albania

Tension dominated the rally held on the afternoon of March 22 in Tirana, when the protest organized by the opposition got out of control and turned into clashes with the police.

According to the authorities, groups of protesters attacked the security forces, throwing improvised incendiary devices (Molotov cocktails) And objects at public buildings and police officers. The clashes resulted in the injury of six police officers, who were taken to hospital for first aid, but their lives were not in danger.

At the same time, material damage was recorded at government facilities, while a fire broke out in garbage bins and a police vehicle, intensifying the already tense climate in the city center.

The reaction of the law enforcement authorities was immediate. Through the investigations that followed, a total of 24 people were identified who allegedly participated in illegal actions during the mobilization. Of these, 15 were arrested, while a case was filed against nine others and they were released on parole. Among those involved were minors, who were taken to the competent authorities and subsequently released.

Particularly sensational is the fact that, in the context of the same case, criminal proceedings were also initiated against an opposition MP. He is accused, among other things, of participating in an illegal gathering and inciting minors to commit criminal acts, with the file being forwarded to the prosecutor's office for further investigation.

The authorities point out that the investigation is ongoing and it is not ruled out that new evidence or additional people involved may emerge, as the analysis of the material from the scene of the incidents continues.
