On this day, the murder of Giorgis Bolanos – Head of MAVI in Himara

The Northern Epirus Liberation Front was the last attempt to unite our homeland with mother greece, Which Was carried out by northern Epirusians for northern Epirusians.

However, the conditions that had been created in the region during World War II were particularly difficult, as the support of MABI by EDES and the hostile attitude of both the Albanian communists with EAM, as well as the Albanian nationalists (Balli Kombetar) who had a common destructive line against the Northern Epirus people, soon brought about the end.

An effort organized by the most dynamic Greeks from Northern Epirus, who at that time excelled in Greece, Northern Epirus, Albania, and other countries abroad.

Within this specific group of MABI leaders was the Chimara native Georgios Bolanos, who was responsible for the organization for the region of Chimara and its surrounding area.

However, after the murder of Vasilios Sahinis, the Albanians continued the persecution and execution of its other members.

Georgios Bolanos was murdered on December 3, 1943, and after that the Albanian "Ballists" proceeded to destroy the village of Glyna in the area of Dropoli, Gjirokastra, which was the base of MAVI.

As a result, the Front's action in Northern Epirus ceased to exist and during the Axis withdrawal from the region it played no role in local political events.

With the end of the war, Enver Hoxha's National Liberation Front was imposed in Albania, which constituted the "tombstone" of Northern Epirotic Hellenism, breaking the centuries-old ties between the Greek-speaking, Albanian-speaking, and Vlach-speaking Northern Epirotes, creating the limited zone of the "Minority", influencing consciences, murdering and imprisoning thousands of Greeks.
