Himara's judicial victory against Tsanis and his Albanian instigators

Himara achieved a huge legal victory through Vasilis Bolanos against Albanian encroachers.

In July 2008, the Central Committee for the Restitution of Property of Albania notified the then Mayor of Himara, Vasilis Bolanos, of its decision to grant an area of eight thousand acres of land in the Panormos (Palermo) area to Anastas Tsanis, originally from Koudesi. Mr. Tsanis had managed, through forged property documents and a pre-arranged court decision, to be awarded an area belonging to 120 different families of Greeks from Himara.

Mr. Vasilis Bolanos, with the consent of the then municipal council, began a legal battle against this method of the government officials of the "Democratic Party" of Albania, with our "compatriot" Mr. Tsanis at the spearhead. The first instance court had initially ruled in favor of

the Tsanis side and recognized the area he claimed. For this reason, the legal procedure was followed to cancel the decision with the aim of reconsidering it, which was achieved. A very big vindication for Himara and the people of Himara, since if the case were lost, the lands belonging to the locals would pass into the hands of the Albanians, as well as opening the way for other Tsanis who were lurking.

It is worth noting that of the 120 families that owned the land, very few participated and cooperated in the legal dispute and this made Mr. Bolanos' task very difficult. Now that the case will be reexamined in the court of first instance, Mr. Bolanos told us that, the participation of families will be crucial with the establishment and representation of a Palermo victims' association.
