On this day in 1912, the liberation of Korçë by the Greek army

On this day, December 7, 1912, the Greek Army enters Korçë after first repelling Ottoman military units.

However, the future award of the region to the newly established Albanian state was what put an end to the enthusiasm of the local Greeks who expected a definitive end to their problem, with their union with Mother Greece.

As a result of the Great Powers' condemnatory decision against them, the people of Korytsa and the residents of the surrounding areas broke out in intense protests and rallies.

Then, delegations of local actors were presented to the consuls of the Great Powers in Thessaloniki, while other local representatives met with King Constantine of Greece and members of the Greek Government.

Local bodies also moved along the same wavelength, beginning the formation of national defense committees, with the ultimate goal of ensuring the security of the region in the event that the Greek Army was forced to retreat.

Two years later, with the start of The Struggle for Independence, The "Holy battalion" of Korçë was composed of 7 thousand people, who voluntarily joined the battle to redress the injustice, which never occurred.
