Former Russian President and current Deputy Chairman of the Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, has issued a new direct threat to the West. On the occasion of Gorbachev's death, he explains that analysts who are eager to see a "collapse" of Russia like other great powers, on the occasion of the invasion of Ukraine, are playing a dangerous game. He also attacked the West, calling those who dream of the country's collapse "perverted".
Medvedev's statements, posted on the largest Russian social network, were made on the same day that it became known that a Russian nuclear submarine was allegedly located in the Mediterranean Sea, near Italy.
He made particular reference to the country's nuclear power, which it maintained even after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
Moving on to a threat to Western countries, Dmitry Medvedev added: “These efforts are truly extremely dangerous” because they “ignore a simple axiom: the violent disintegration of a nuclear power is always a game of chess with death.” Finally, he described Russia’s nuclear arsenal as “the best guarantee of preserving Great Russia.”
“Western countries are doing everything they can to make Russia’s state institutions stop functioning,” he wrote in his post. “They want to deprive the country of effective governance, as happened in 1991. And as a result, eliminate Russia from the political arena.”
At the same time, a Russian nuclear submarine is reportedly sailing into the Mediterranean Sea near Italy, as reported by the news website "Naval News", the German newspaper "Bild" writes.
It is unclear how long it has been at sea near mainland Europe. However, as Naval News reports, the Russian nuclear submarine could be a replacement for the Russian destroyer Marshal Ustinov, which was sailing in the Mediterranean until August 24.
