The Chief of the Hellenic National Defense General Staff at the NATO Military Committee Meeting

On Tuesday 12 and Wednesday 13 January 2022, the Chief of the Hellenic National Defence Staff, General Konstantinos Floros, participated via video conference in the first NATO Military Committee Conference in Chiefs of Defence Session (MCCS) of 2022, under its Chairman Admiral Rob Bauer.

The Summit was also attended by the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) General Tod Wolters and the Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (SACT) General Philippe Lavigne, as well as the Chiefs of the General Staff of National Defense of the 30 member states of the Alliance.

The first day of the Summit's work concerned issues of Military Strategy and focused on the progress of the implementation of the "NATO Warfighting Capstone Concept (NWCC)" and the corresponding one for the "Deterrence and Defence of the Euro-Atlantic Area (DDA), as well as on the Military Committee's contribution to the preparation of the Alliance's new Strategic Concept.

The proceedings of the second day of the Summit were introduced by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, who referred to the current political situation as well as the Alliance's priorities in view of the NATO Summit, which will be held in Madrid next June, emphasizing the importance of close cooperation between the Political and Military Arms of the Alliance in maintaining NATO's unity and strength.

The Military Committee also discussed the Alliance's "Deterrence and Defence Posture", as well as the security situation in Georgia and Ukraine.
