Landslides in Agios Vasilis Himaras block the main road

The bad weather that has been hitting the south of Albania since dawn has already caused the first problems on the road network, with Himara at the epicenter of the difficulties.

In the village of Agios Vasilis, access to the main road was temporarily interrupted when large quantities of soil and debris rolled down the slopes due to continuous and heavy rainfall. The passage of vehicles became extremely difficult, while residents are calling for the immediate mobilization of crews and heavy machinery in order to remove the materials and prevent new problems in case the phenomena continue.

At the same time, the strong winds that accompanied the rain caused trees to fall in the Soda forest area near Narta, creating dangerous conditions for drivers. In one of these cases, around 4 am, a passing vehicle crashed into a tree trunk that had ended up on the roadway. The incident resulted in a brief traffic stop, but no injuries were reported.

Local authorities are monitoring the development of weather conditions, while concern remains, as the soils are already saturated with water and the risk of new landslides has not disappeared.
