The Greek Children's Library of London and the Museum of School Life and Education are co-organizing the museum-pedagogical action "In the footsteps of the lost Caryatid" which will take place at the British Museum and the New Acropolis Museum.
Children will have the opportunity to discover the history of the Caryatid at the British Museum, become journalists and interview an exhibit, chat online with children in Greece and gain information about the other five Caryatids located at the New Acropolis Museum, and participate in hands-on activities, creative writing, and a treasure hunt of ancient Greek exhibits.
The event will take place on Sunday, March 10, 2024, Time: 10:00 am- 12:00 pm and is aimed at children aged 6 to 12. It will be held exclusively in Greek and is free of charge with reservation required.
The Greek Children's Library of London was created in 2023 and is part of the Greek Library of London which was created in 2017.
It has more than 480 members and has 4,000 titles of books for adults and 1,000 titles of children's and teenage literature. It relies on its twenty volunteers who staff its departments.
Its primary goal is to lend Greek books throughout the United Kingdom to promote the Greek language and to introduce readers to the work of writers from Greece and Cyprus. The wide variety of titles available at the library provides the potential reader with the opportunity to choose from poetry, prose and short-form works to academic studies and historical and philosophical essays, both in Greek and translated.
It constitutes a cultural cell, serving as a meeting point for the Greek community. Both the meetings held twice a month in central London and the various activities implemented are an opportunity to strengthen the bonds of the Greek community. For this reason, the activities of the Greek Library of London are designed, planned and implemented taking into account the reading preferences of the members, their suggestions and their interests.
