Trilateral meeting of Croatia, Kosovo and Albania on defense and security issues

At a time of increased geopolitical pressures in the Balkans, Kosovo, Albania and Croatia intensify their coordination in the security sector, proceeding with a new round of institutional cooperation within the framework of the trilateral declaration signed in 2025.

The recent meeting on Tuesday, February 3, was held at the level of civil defense and armaments directors and is part of the practical actions to implement the commitments undertaken by the three countries. According to the Ministry of Defense, this is a another step in the transition from declarations to operational cooperation.

The Kosovo delegation was led by the Director of Civil Defense Faruk Geci, with discussions focusing on the possibilities of strengthening defense capabilities, the interconnection of defense industries, and the practical implementation of the provisions of the trilateral agreement.

The declaration provides for four main axes of cooperation: development of defense capabilities and industry, enhancing interoperability through education, exercises and training, addressing hybrid threats and increasing the resilience of state structures, as well as continuing support for the Euro-Atlantic perspective of the countries in the region.

Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of coordinated action against new security threats, with participants recognizing that hybrid threats and asymmetric risks are now a central challenge to the stability of Southeastern Europe.

The common approach of Croatia, Albania and Kosovo confirms the will to deepen cooperation in the field of defense, with the aim of strengthening regional security and shielding the region against evolving threats, in an environment where balances remain fragile.
