The Supreme Court of Albania took the same line as the Special Court of Appeal against Corruption in the case of former Minister Olta ZatskaThe Supreme Court today rejected his appeal Fredis Beleris, who called for a judicial investigation of the former Minister of Foreign Affairs and her husband, Artan Gachi, regarding the privatization of land in Himara for the construction of a tourist resort, for which gachi had been described as a "strategic investor".

Initially, the Special Court of First Instance against Corruption had ordered the Special Prosecutor's Office against Corruption to proceed with an investigation. However, the prosecutor's office appealed and the Special Court of Appeal accepted its request.

At yesterday's session, Albania's highest judicial level also definitively ratified the previous decision.

Beleris Was calling for the annulment of the two previous decisions and the mandatory investigation of tzatska. He Had accused her and gachi of A series of criminal offenses.

Ultimately, while the Special Prosecutor's Office did not proceed with an investigation into the couple, it did prosecute them for abuse of power against the former mayor of Himara, George Gorou, regarding the illegal transfer of two plots of land that were linked to gachi's investment Plan.

The stance of the government majority towards the Constitutional Court

The government majority repeatedly refused to implement a decision of Constitutional Court of Albania regarding the parliamentary mandate of Žatska. The Court had obliged Parliament to send the case for interpretation, but the procedure remained pending.

The judge had publicly pointed out that Parliament did not comply with the decision, recalling that the judgments of the Constitutional Court are final and binding.

Since June 2022, the majority has been taking advantage of parliamentary procedures and time delays, politically protecting Zatska.

Thus, arriving at 2025, the former minister not only retained her parliamentary seat, but was re-elected to the Parliament of Albania.
