The Vespers of Forgiveness in the Orthodox churches of Albania was truly devout, where with pure feelings for each other, the members of the Orthodox Community forgave each other, something they do daily, but which is also very necessary for them and marks their spiritual struggle at the beginning of Great Lent.
Metropolitan Nathanael of Gjirokaster presided over the Vespers of Forgiveness at the Resurrection Cathedral of Gjirokaster, where members of the Orthodox Community forgave each other. The Orthodox faithful in Albania felt that how could one ask God for forgiveness for one's mistakes, when one has not forgiven the mistakes of one's neighbor.
A basic prerequisite for genuine sociability is forgiveness. “Behold, now is the acceptable time, behold, now is the day of salvation” (2 Cor. 6:2) is heard in the devout Vespers. And the Church calls us to leave “the works of darkness” and to put on the “armor of light”. The “stage of virtues is renewed” and all the fighters in the spiritual arena have before us the lofty goal of hoarding the “treasures” of the soul.
Με τον εσπερινό της συγγνώμης ανοιγόμαστε στην περίοδο της Μ. Τεσσαρακοστής. Είναι καιρός πνευματικής περισυλλογής και ανασυγκρότησης και των μεγάλων γυμνασίων, που απαιτούνται για την ενίσχυση και την αξιοποίηση των μαχητικών μας ψυχικών δυνάμεων, προς σταθερή και νικηφόρα αντιμετώπιση του αγώνα κατά της αμαρτίας. Προς το σκοπό αυτό άφθονες δίνονται και πάλι στους Χριστιανούς οι πνευματικές ευκαιρίες και πλούσια παράσχονται τα πνευματικά μέσα από την Εκκλησία. Χρειάζεται, όμως, πρώτον να θελήσουμε όλοι να λάβουμε πρόθυμα και ακούραστα μέρος σε αυτά τα γυμνάσια, αφού κατανοήσουμε, βέβαια, την ανάγκη, που τα επιβάλλει.
