Turkey And the united Kingdom Signed an 8 Billion pound (about 9 billion euros) Deal On monday for the supply of 20 eurofighter typhoon Fighter Jets.

The deal, which strengthens Turkey's air capabilities, was signed in Ankara during British Prime Minister Keir Starmer's first visit to the country and marks the first new Typhoon order from the United Kingdom since 2017.

«Our countries may be at opposite ends of Europe, but we are close partners and working together more closely than ever before.", Starmer said during the signing ceremony, alongside Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

«This agreement will strengthen security within NATO, deepen bilateral defence cooperation and stimulate economic growth in both Turkey and the UK, securing 20,000 jobs in Britain. I am proud that British Typhoons will be an important part of the Turkish Air Force for years to come.", he added.

For his part, Erdogan described the agreement as "new symbol of the strategic relationship between two close allies».

Starmer also stressed that the deal includes the possibility of further sales of fighter jets in the future.

The preliminary agreement for the Eurofighter was signed in July, with the aircraft being built by a consortium involving the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy and Spain, led by Britain's BAE Systems.

The development came after Berlin's decision to lift its long-standing opposition to the sale of these fighter jets to Turkey.

Last week, Erdogan visited three Gulf countries, where he discussed the possible purchase of second-hand Typhoons from Qatar and Oman.

According to Turkish media and statements by Defense Minister Yasar Guler, in addition to the 20 new aircraft, Ankara intends to purchase another 12 used fighters from Qatar and 12 from Oman.
