A cargo plane flying from Dubai skidded off the runway while landing at Hong Kong International Airport and ended up in the sea, the airport operator said in a statement, while local media reported that two people were dead.
The airport's northern runway was closed after the incident, the managing company said, however the other two runways, the central and southern, continue to operate.
The crash was recorded at 03:50 (local time; yesterday at 22:50 Greek time) and the airport said the aircraft had an Emirates flight code. The UAE carrier did not immediately respond to a request for comment by the news agency.Reuters.
The four-member crew was rescued, according to the airport manager. One ground staff member was rescued and another is missing, she added.
However, the newspaperSouth China Morning PostReported in its digital edition that two men, members of the ground staff, who were riding in a vehicle, lost their lives.
The specialized website Flightradar24 reported via X that the aircraft was a Boeing 747 cargo plane. It added that the Boeing belonged to airACT, a Turkish company that subleases cargo planes to major companies in the industry.
