The coastal cities in Albania are the ones with the highest number of unoccupied homes. At the top is Durres, where 91,378 homes, either single-family homes or apartments, were recorded during last September's census.
The analysis shows that 44,595 of these dwellings are unoccupied, of which 26,106 are apartments in apartment buildings. However, it is not clear whether they were considered secondary residences or simply recorded due to the absence of residents.
In Vlora, 63,428 dwellings were registered, with over 50% of them (specifically 33,561) being uninhabited. Of these, 22,852 are apartments in apartment buildings.
In the summer months, the bustling resort Of Saranda has a Total of 20,790 residences, of Which 12,919 are uninhabited, with 10,254 located in apartment buildings.
Further south, in the Himara region, 7,292 dwellings have been recorded, with more than half (4,173) uninhabited. Of these, only 1,083 are in apartment buildings, while the rest are private residences.
In Shkodra, a city with increased traffic near the lake and Velipoja during the summer season, 46,230 residences were recorded, of which 14,632 are uninhabited, with 5,391 of them located in apartment buildings.
In the city of Leza, 25,193 residences were identified, of which 9,643 are uninhabited and 4,735 of them are apartments in apartment buildings.
