The process of assessing the damage caused by the summer fires in the prefecture of Avlonas has been completed, with the municipalities of Delvinos and Finikis having received the biggest blow.
In Delvino, the fires caused extensive damage: 16 houses, a church and five vehicles were burned, while the flames consumed about 1,250 hectares of scrub vegetation and as many pastures.
Losses also include 69,965 olive trees, 30 sheep, 3 mules, 45 hectares of woodland and 622 beehives.
The picture is similar in Finiki, where the fires destroyed 17 houses, a church and an animal stable. At the same time, 35,000 olive trees, 4,000 vines and fruit trees were damaged, while 9 cattle and 330 hives were burned.
In Konispoli, the damage was more limited, but even there the flames burned 80 hectares of bushland and 20 hectares of pasture, causing the loss of 1,100 olive trees, 100 fruit trees, 10 sheep and 10 beehives.
Smaller-scale damage has also been reported in the municipalities of Avlona, Agioi Saranda, Himara and Selenitsa, mainly in forest and grassland areas.
So far, only the registration phase has been completed, with no date yet set for the start of compensation to affected residents.
Although the prime minister has promised that all losses will be covered, it remains unclear whether the process will be based on this commitment or according to the 2012 decision, which provides for compensation only for houses and electrical household appliances.
