Last week, the trial for the meadows of the Alykos province was held in the courts of Agioi Saranda. The subject of the legal dispute between the Alykos province and the Albanian real estate inventory department is 280 acres located west and above Lake Vouthroti in the village of Kainourio, which the Alykos province claims as it claims that they have been given illegally and with forged documents to 6 families of Albanian origin.
The former director of the Directorate for the Inventory and Return of Real Estate in Albania claims that the property titles to Albanian families have been given on the basis of genuine and legal documents, saying that the prefect Mr. Kaysis provoked with his behavior when he requested that the property titles be returned to the province, claiming that they are the property of the Greek minority.
The Albanian side was shocked by the unprotocol presence of the Greek consul in Gjirokastra, Mr. Kotrokois, who attended the hearing, watching the trial, of course with a translator. He stated that he attended the trial as a simple listener and not to influence the court. He wanted to closely observe a process that is of interest to the Greek minority and to make sure that justice works the same for everyone. He also pointed out the fact that Albania wants to become a member of the European Union, emphasizing the need to streamline the judicial system and the rule of law.
