Incidents occurred on Saturday night, during the opposition protest in Tirana, with the tension moving from the city center to the General Directorate of Police.
The demonstration began in front of the Prime Minister's Palace and then some of the protesters headed towards the Police Headquarters in the Brili area. A strong police force had been deployed at the site, while metal railings and special law enforcement vehicles had been installed.
According to authorities, more than 1,500 police officers participated in the operation. When a group of protesters attempted to approach the building, police forces used water cannons and tear gas to repel them.
