The vote counting process in the five Albanian municipalities where repeat local elections were held was completed with a clear victory for the candidates of the ruling Socialist Party.

According to the official results of The Central Election commission, The Socialist party prevailed in all five contests, securing percentages ranging from 66% to over 80%, leaving The independent candidates who were unofficially supported by the opposition at a significant distance.

In most cases, opposition candidates did not exceed 25% of the vote, while in two municipalities the difference in favor of the Socialist Party candidates exceeded 50 percentage points. Particular mention was made of the victory of the Socialist Party candidate in Vlora, who becomes the first woman to take over the city administration.

Voter turnout remained low, reaching a total of 18.5%. The highest turnout was recorded in the municipality of Mat, where almost 40% of registered voters voted, while the lowest was in Vlora, with just 12.6%.

According to the Central Election Commission, the process went smoothly and without serious incidents. Only two minor incidents were recorded at polling stations, which did not affect the smooth conduct of the voting and counting.

The new mayors elected will serve for approximately one and a half years, until the next regular local elections scheduled for spring 2027.
