The way is being paved for the digital issuance of passports for Greeks abroad, with the passage of Article 60 of Law 5143/2024 by the Ministry of Interior. This legislation, which concerns the regulations for land border stations, the strengthening of local government and other provisions, modernizes the passport issuance process.
The new regulation, which resulted from the cooperation of the Ministries Of foreign Affairs, Citizen Protection and digital governance, facilitates the process and reduces both the time and cost of issuing passports.
With the completion of the technical implementation, the efficiency of the consular authorities will be enhanced, aiming to better serve the needs of Greeks abroad. This initiative is part of the government's strategy to support Greeks living abroad, as foreseen in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Strategic Plan for the Hellenic Diaspora 2024-2027.
This move not only concerns technological upgrading, but also improving the daily lives of expatriates, offering them faster and more effective communication with the Greek state.
