The US embassy in Tirana is returning with a clear warning to Albanian citizens, clarifying that sham marriages for the purpose of immigration to the United States are not treated as an "irregularity", but as a serious criminal offense.

In a public statement, the diplomatic mission emphasizes that any attempt to enter or remain in the United States must be made exclusively through legal procedures and with complete, truthful documentation. As it is emphasized, circumventing immigration laws can result in serious penalties, up to and including a permanent ban on entry into the country.

The embassy points out that the US authorities treat with particular severity cases of marriages concluded solely for the purpose of obtaining the right to reside, as this is a federal crime with criminal consequences. At the same time, it calls on interested parties to be informed responsibly and to avoid practices that may undermine their future.

According to the statement, even one violation of immigration law can have long-term consequences, not only on visa or green card applications, but also on any future travel or residency requests in the United States. The embassy's message is clear: the legal route is the only safe option.
