985 kilograms of pickled anchovies containing the L3 larva of the Anisakis parasite, which poses a serious risk to human health, were imported into Albania.
This parasitic organism can infect both children and adults who consume raw fish. In addition to inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract, the larvae may penetrate the gastric or intestinal mucosa, causing serious complications.
At the same time, 4,516.75 kilograms of pork fillet containing the bacterium Salmonella spp. were imported. Its presence in the human body can cause diarrhea, fever, stomach pain and other symptoms.
The inspections carried out by The Food Control Authority (AKU) revealed the existence of these two dangerous products for public health.
According to AKU's response to Ora News, the salted anchovies, totaling 985 kilograms, were imported from Croatia and Italy, while the pork fillet with salmonella came from Brazil. AKU assured that the anchovies have not been placed on the market, as they have been seized and are to be destroyed in Albania.
Regarding the large quantity of pork, there are two options: either to destroy it, or to distribute it to businesses that meet the conditions for processing and re-distributing it to the market.
In response to a new question from Ora News, AKU did not provide any clarification on the processing process of the contaminated meat. Sources say that this pork can be sold to sausage factories at a low price or even distributed to hospitals.
