As part of the events organized throughout Greece for the 200th anniversary of the start of the Greek Revolution of 1821, the Municipality of Thebes organized an event yesterday dedicated to the contribution of the Theban warriors to the outcome of the Struggle and the liberation from the Turkish yoke.
The event had the theme: "Thebes in the Revolution of 1821-1829: Contribution to historical memory", and was held under the auspices of the "Greece 2021" Committee, while the Region of Central Greece - Regional Government of Boeotia was co-organizer.

Also collaborating and participating were the Thebes Cultural Development Association "Laios" and the Boeotia Research and Study Center over Time, the Greek Women's Lyceum - Thebes Branch.
Keynote speakers at the event were:
– Thanos Veremis, professor emeritus, Department of Political Science and Public Administration, University of Athens
– Thanasis Christou, Professor of Modern and Contemporary History, University of Peloponnese
– Nikos Trikalitis, journalist And researcher
– Konstantinos Trikalitis, theologian – historian
During the event, mayors of the cities that helped Thebes during the Revolutionary Struggle and those cities in which Thebes found refuge during the Ottoman occupation were honored. At the same time, honorable mention was made to the descendants of Thebes' fighters and descendants of important personalities of the city, such as the Theban painter, Theodoros Vryzakis.

In the context of this brilliant and moving event organized by the Municipality of Thebes, the Mayor of Thebes G. Anastasiou presented the President of the Himaraean Union, Thodoris Goumas, with an honorary plaque in recognition of the assistance offered by the Himaraean fighters defending the city of Thebes in 1829.
