October begins for the Greek Diaspora of Istanbul with culture, education and activities for the new generation, with three initiatives that highlight the continued presence and action of the City's communities.
On Saturday, October 3, at 6:00 PM, the collaborating Communities are organizing a screening of the Greek film “Brides” at the old school of Balat, in the courtyard of Taxiarchis. The screening will be held with Turkish subtitles and free admission, giving the audience the opportunity to experience one of the characteristic modern cinematic narratives surrounding Greek immigration.
A little earlier, at 5:00 PM on the same day, the Holy Metropolis of Derka will inaugurate the new period of its catechetical work. The first meeting will be hosted at the Church of Saint George of Makrochorio, with the focus on children and maintaining their contact with Orthodox tradition and community life.
A week later, on Saturday, October 10, the “Play saturday” takes Over. From 10:30 A.m. to 1 P.m., the Holy Trinity Church Of Stavrodromi will welcome children for games, singing, and creative activities.
The three initiatives reflect the importance that the Greek community and church organizations attach to maintaining the cohesion of the Greek community and especially to the participation of the younger generations. From Balat and Makrochori to Stavrodromi, the Greek presence in Istanbul continues to be expressed through its communities, churches, culture and children.
