Migrants arriving in small boats in the UK from Tuesday 7 March will be banned from claiming asylum or invoking human rights law to avoid leaving.
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak told the Sun that the new illegal immigration bill “will take back control of the border once and for all.” The head of the British government said he was determined to confront the network of left-wing lawyers, migrant unions and civil servants.
The decision will apply to all small boat arrivals, although the law could take at least a month to pass. If passed, the illegal immigration bill would only allow people under 18 and the seriously ill to apply for asylum. All other migrants would be deported to their homes or to a “safe” third country such as Rwanda.
While they try to enter the country, they will be held in camps, student buildings, military accommodation. Cruise ships can also be used to accommodate migrants instead of expensive 4 and 5 star hotels. On Sunday, Prime Minister Sunak appealed to French President Emmanuel Macron that this bill will help relieve pressure on France and Britain.
“The British people have suffered enough. This government is determined to stop the illegal boats and to ensure that we have all the powers available to remove illegal immigrants. The Prime Minister and the Home Secretary are committed to this course of action, with no ‘ifs’ or ‘buts,’” a British government official said. Almost 3,000 migrants have crossed the English Channel in boats this year. 40 were arrested by Border Force on Sunday.
