Lax border controls between Ireland and Great Britain are being used by Albanians to ferry illegal immigrants to Britain by taxi for up to £2,500 less than the cost of crossing the Channel.
Albanians are working with Irish crime gangs to fly migrants to Dublin and then provide them with an Irish taxi driver to smuggle them into Britain by ferry.
The "back door" route will cost migrants around £2,500 per person with an additional £300 to £400 for a fake ID bought in Albania.
It costs an average of £5,000 to £5,500 to cross the English Channel illegally in a small boat.
A gang organizer told an undercover reporter for The Telegraph that trips were being organized “every day.”
"You have to go to Dublin. We have the price of £2500 from Dublin to England. It is 100 percent safe. 'You have to have a fake European ID card to get to Dublin easily,' he said.
Migrants are advised to "make a lot of noise" and apply for asylum.
"They'll release you after 12 hours. Then the taxi will come and you can go straight to England," said the gang organizer.
Government sources have said that the free movement of Albanians to Europe is a “challenge.” The National Crime Agency (NCA) has also previously expressed concerns about the use of the Common Travel Area as a route to Britain.
