Greece and India: Bridges of knowledge and cooperation on the path to strategic partnership

Under the auspices of the General Secretariat for Hellenes Abroad and Public Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a Conference on the theme "Greece and India: History, Society, Science and Entrepreneurship" was organized in New Delhi, at the Conference Center of Jawaharlal Nehru University, with the aim of promoting academic dialogue between leading universities and academics from India and Greece.

In his greeting, the Secretary General of Hellenism Abroad and Public Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ioannis Chrysoulakis, underlined that Greeks and Indians constitute two Indo-European nations that meet, with uninterrupted and fruitful contacts and exchanges, in the depths of History. In this context, he emphasized, the Conference is a commendable initiative of its co-organizers – the Chair of Hellenic Studies of the Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi under the guidance and supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Anil Kumar Singh, NKUA, AUTH, International Hellenic University – to highlight current aspects of the relations between Greece and India and the possibility of further developing relations between Greek and Indian Universities. Mr. Chrysoulakis congratulated the organizers, underlining the support of the General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad and Public Diplomacy in every initiative that promotes mutual understanding between the two peoples, opening new avenues of mutually beneficial cooperation.

The participating speakers analyzed aspects of historical communication and exchanges between the two peoples, focusing on many interesting contemporary fields in the fields of culture and science. Special mention was made of issues of international cooperation, while issues concerning the organizational structures of the Greek Diaspora and its two-way relations with the Greek state were highlighted.

The Conference was addressed by the Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture of India, Meenakshi Lekhi. The event was organized under the auspices of and supported by the recently established Women's Association of India-Greece WICCI.GR. This is one of the first high-level academic events between Greece and India after the upgrading of the relationship between the two countries to the level of Strategic Partnership, in August 2023, which includes education and exchanges between universities and scientific communities of the two countries.
