The Special Criminal Court of Albania has decided to lift the "house arrest" measure imposed on Xhamarber Maltezi, son-in-law of former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, who is accused in the "Partizani" case.
Maltese is accused of money laundering and was previously under house arrest as a precautionary security measure.
After examining a relevant request from the defense, the court decided to relax the restrictive measure.
The "Partizani" case has been referred to trial by the Special Court, with the first hearing scheduled for June 30. However, the trial was postponed.
The reason for the postponement was the absence of the president of the Democratic Party of Albania, Sali Berisha, who had not been informed of the trial and was represented by his lawyers.
In the audience, Maltese admitted that he was the one who signed the subpoena, but he also admitted that he had not informed the former prime minister.
“The notice to Mr. Berisha arrived on Friday. Here we see how the state is staging a hoax — the politicians were notified two weeks ago, but they chose to send it on Friday. The police lied; the document arrived just three days ago. According to the Criminal Procedure Code, it should have been sent at least ten days earlier,” Maltezi said.
