The implementation of the agreement between Albania and Great Britain for the transfer of 200 prisoners serving sentences of four years or more, who will return in the next two years to serve the remainder of their sentences in Albanian prisons, begins today. Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak signed this agreement in December 2022.
The British side will pay the prisoners' housing costs for the entire duration of their sentence in Albania.
Thus, 200 Albanian prisoners in prisons in England and Wales serving sentences of four years or more will return in the next two years to serve the remainder of their sentences in Albanian prisons.
