The Gjirokaster Police Directorate announced the arrest of two men from Durres as part of the operation codenamed "Attempt 4", which aimed to dismantle an illegal migrant smuggling ring.

The two arrested, aged 36 and 30, are accused of helping third-country nationals cross the border into Greece illegally in return for payment. The 36-year-old was arrested red-handed by the traffic police, on the "Gardikaki - Saranda" road, transporting in an Audi car, for payment, four immigrants from Nepal, who intended to cross illegally into Greece through the Mavromatio border crossing.

The second perpetrator was later arrested in collaboration with the Durres Police Department, while another accomplice has been identified and is being sought.

During the operation, the vehicle and a mobile phone used to coordinate the movements were seized. The case file was forwarded to the Gjirokaster First Instance Prosecutor's Office for further procedures.
