According to Albanian customs data, imports of fuel, cigarettes, beer and coffee have shown a significant increase. Revenues from excise duty for the period January-October of this year amounted to 48 billion lek, recording an increase of 4.5 billion lek compared to the same period last year.

Despite the decline in the dollar and euro exchange rates against the lek, the positive revenue performance is mainly due to the increase in consumption by 31,608 tons compared to the corresponding period last year.

Specifically, cigarettes contributed an additional 1.7 million lek, LPG 154 million lek and other products 228 million lek compared to last year.

Consumption of excise goods also increased: cigarettes increased by 55 tons, fuel by 31,608 tons, beer by 6,984 tons and coffee by 249 tons. These increases correspond to the highest levels of consumption on record.

The increase in revenue is attributed to the intensification of controls against the underground economy, through a strict action plan that includes all the mechanisms of the customs services.
