A 25-year-old Albanian man who attacked a Cambridge University student during a night out in October 2021 is now free in Albania. According to the Daily Mail, the court doubled the young man's sentence.

The young Albanian was deported in advance to Albania, where he lives freely without worrying about his punishment in the UK. In November last year, he was sentenced by Peterborough Crown Court to three years and four months in prison after pleading guilty to attempted rape and sexual assault.

Attorney General Michael Tomlinson later requested an extension of the prison sentence, arguing that he was too lenient, but was unaware that the Albanian had been voluntarily deported under an early release program in January, as part of the agreement signed by British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak with the Albanian government to deport illegal immigrants.

At a hearing in London on Friday, judges increased his total sentence to seven years, but noted that their decision could be "useless" if he is not arrested in Albania.
