Dinamo Tirana's Brazilian volleyball player Nayara Ferreira has been temporarily suspended by the Albanian Volleyball Federation, which has asked the athlete to undergo a gender test.
The case is unprecedented for Albanian sports and has provoked reactions from Dinamo, who argue that the decision violates Ferreira's dignity and personality.
In its statement, the team says that the athlete has an official license from the World Volleyball Federation (FIVB) and a multi-year international career, while expressing wonder at the lack of clear explanations or regulatory basis from the Federation.
Dinamo states that it will cooperate with the authorities to clarify the case, stressing that sport must be based on transparency, justice and respect for the individual.
