The Orthodox of the Metropolis of Gjirokastër express their satisfaction for the election as Metropolitan to the position of Metropolitan of Gjirokastër, which was vacant after the death of the late Demetrios, of the hitherto Titular Metropolitan of Amantia Nathanael.
Mr. Nathanael, of Greek origin (he is not an Albanian citizen), knows the region well, as shortly after the arrival of the blessed Anastasios in Albania, he followed him, with the center of his missionary activity in Gjirokastra, where he remained until 2012, when he was elected Bishop initially and then Metropolitan of the once brilliant Diocese of Amantia and settled in Tirana, assisting the work of Mr. Anastasios.
During his twenty-plus years of ministry in gjirokastra, he visited All the villages of the metropolitan Region, Where he officiated and preached.
But there were also many baptisms he performed in those first years, of both young and old, expanding the message of Orthodoxy.
He is not, therefore, an "unknown" in the area and therefore his presence and action can bring about spiritual fruitfulness.
Also accepted by the local flock is the newly elected Metropolitan of Korytsa Anastasios, until now Bishop of Krugia, who is called to continue the work of Archbishop Ioannou as Metropolitan of Korytsa.
Mr. Anastasios is young and dynamic, and he knows the Greek language well and can easily communicate with the Greek-Vlachs of Korçë, who are a large part of the population of the area.
What should also interest the new Metropolitans of the Church of Albania is the persistent and systematic cultivation of a healthy spirituality, without divisions.
This leads to social peace which is directly linked to justice. An unjust world cannot be peaceful.
The antidote to the egocentrism that torpedoes peaceful coexistence is the strengthening of love in the hearts of people, within society. A multidimensional love, which is not limited by borders, prejudices or other discriminations. A healthy religious conscience is called upon to contribute towards this direction.
